Darryl Francis Moore's Obituary
Darryl Francis Moore AKA 'D', 'Detrick', 'Archie' Darryl Moore was born December 31, 1938 and passed away at the age of 74 in the early morning of July 4, 2013. He was born to Joe Moore and Hazel Lorilla Francies Moore in Denver, CO. As a young child, they moved near Bakersfield, CA. He joined the Navy 1957-1961. Darryl married Johnnie Rae Griffin in 1963 in Las Vegas, Nevada. They remained in Las Vegas for 18 months while he learned the carpentry trade from his brother, Skip Moore. With his job, he moved around for a few years from Ventura to San Bernardino, to Rialto, then to Petaluma and finally settling in Fremont in 1965 and stayed in the east bay from then on. Darryl lived a happy life with Johnnie Rae and together they raised her two children. He loved and treated them as if they were his own. Brenda was 8 and Jimmy was 6 when Darryl entered their lives. He was the best husband, father, granddad, and great-granddad you could ever ask for. Darryl was a carpenter. His hobby was fast pitch softball. He pitched for many years and later took on golf, which became his passion. He joined a men's group, SIR (Sons in Retirement) Branch 59 serving tri-city area. Darryl was very active before he became ill. During his lifetime, Darryl acquired many nicknames. Archie was a nick name given to him from the boys in the Navy and his brothers called him Detrick and his sister called him D. He loved to entertain family and friends about his travels and adventures in the areas of the Pacific. Darryl was preceded in death by his father and mother, Joe Moore and Hazel Stegner, his wife Johnnie Rae Moore, his son Jimmy Harold Griffin, his brothers Chuck Moore and Skip Moore, and his sisters Wilma Joe Moore and Betty Williams. Even though Darryl loved traveling, playing softball, and golfing, he loved nothing better than being with those whom he loved. Darryl is survived by his daughter Brenda McCarthy and her husband Steve McCarthy of Brentwood, CA; grandchildren Chad Hughes of NV/San Leandro, CA and his wife Tami Hughes; Shane Hughes of Newark, CA and his wife Soila Hughes; Jonna Myrick of Castro Valley, CA and her husband Dan Myrick, Jimmy Darryl Griffin, Ben Griffin of Fremont, CA; and great grandchildren Anissa Rae Hughes, Leila Griffin and Brandon Griffin of Fremont, CA; his brothers Paul Moore of Bakersfield, CA, Rick Martin of Monterey, CA and Leroy Stegner of Bakersfield, CA; his sister Barbara Moore Heald of Franklin, GA. Darryl may be rejoicing with the Lord, but he will forever remain in the hearts of his loved ones.
