Darryl Cecil Duncan's Obituary
Darryl’s life
story
Darryl C. Duncan, so affectionately known as, “Ummps or Mr. Omar,” was born on June 6th, 1972, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, to Darryl C. Duncan Sr., and Ms. Terrance J. Jones. Umar, peacefully entered into eternal rest on May 20, 2021, surrounded by his loving family members. He is preceded in death by his father “Tariq” Duncan. Five days later, his grandmother Katie Bell Duncan, preceded him.
Darryl’s expression of life was to live life to the fullest, as long as family and true friends are involved. It continued from Philly, to the small town of Union City, California. Umar attended public school here. He played t-ball, basketball for Saint Anne's, Pop Warner football and finally realized he had a knack for “music.” This was way after the cast came off. Full of life, his smile would fill up a room with kindness, and change your mood to happiness. Ummps, would never let you down, give you his last, last, last. It may be news to you, he definitely was the Original Jack of All Trades. Umar, knew “music,” all in videos, knew “cars,” from his training at Wyotech, could show you how to put out a fire safely, understood “elegant flowers, fancy table settings and immaculate chairs,” he also loved being by the water….where he sometimes went fishing. Darryl wanted you to know, he was a family man, “YOU ALREADY KNOW...OFF-TOP.” He took care of his family in any and every way he knew how. Umar uplifted them with his charm, wit, sense of security and the unconditional love he expressed towards them. Ummps' proudest moments hit instantly, as he witnessed his adult children pave their own path, and the precise moment he became “Poppa!” That kind of love "glowed" whenever he was in their presence. His peace was so obvious around them. His eagerness to make them smile, so natural.
Darrly leaves, to cherish his memories and proudly remember his legacy of love for family, are his “Ummie,” Terrance Jones; favorite and only sister, Jamila Williams (Ken Williams), two brothers he loved so dearly, Hamza and Daud Duncan (Channing Cannon), his one and only sweetheart daughter Melodie Manalo (Ronald “Chino” Manalo); his kind hearted son and namesake, Umar Jr.; Seven beautiful, uniquely gifted and caring grandchildren, Ariyana, Aaliyah, RJ, Aleena, Malakai, Umar and Josiah; Karen Muriset, the mother of his two children, who he appreciated deeply; Three nephews, Quran Duncan, Kenneth and “Izzy,” Williams and a niece Destinee Duncan; adoring aunts, Dottie Hand (Rosevelt Hand), Paulette Duncan, Arleane Chambers (Dennis Chambers), Diane Jones, Joanne Hubbard; uncles he respected, Frank Jones, Wayne Jones and Kenneth Jones; and cousins who were also his best friends.
In peace, in love,
The Family
