DANA MARIE HAYES's Obituary
Dana Marie Hayes 10-19-1962 – 10-25-2013Dana Marie Hayes was born at Oak Knoll Naval Hospital on October 19, 1962, and she lived her whole life in Hayward. She graduated from Mt. Eden High School in 1980. Dana went to Bryman’s School in San Francisco, where she trained to be a dental assistant, but became ill before she could be assigned. She was a really good cook and loved making dishes to take to her sister.Dana was a diabetic from age 11, and suffered many of the complications that come with the disease. She lost her sight at 25 and went on kidney dialysis at Davita on Jackson in 2001, yet through it all she “hung in there”. She finally was so tired that she went into Vitas Hospice care on October 9, 2013 and passed-away at home on October 25, 2013.Dana was preceded in death by her grandfather, Harry L. Lowe (1967), her beloved sister, Deanna Lynn Hayes ( Deeds) (1998), and by her grandparents, Don and Irene Hayes. She is survived by her mom, Sandy Stewart; her grandmother, Clara Lowe; her Aunt Gail (Ed) Schenk, Uncle Bob Hayes (Diane), Uncle Don Hayes (Sharon), Aunt Maryann Hayes, Uncle Dennis Hayes and some really great cousins and second cousins – you all know who you are.She also received special support from long-time and special friends Grace Allan (Bud) and Cousin Linda Johnson (Rick), who came from Hawaii and Dallas (Texas) respectively, to support her during this time, and Shirley Corriea and Carrol Stegall (Gene) of Hayward. Another thank you to Dr. Leena Mehandru (and her wonderful staff); Dr. Lamont Paxton, Dr. Sammy Hung and Dr. Adija Jain, for many years of caring, and, of course, to Vitas Hospice.Visitation was held on Tuesday, October 29 from 5:30 PM to 8:00 PM, with the service on Wednesday at 9 AM, at Chapel of the Chimes, 32992 Mission Blvd., Hayward, CA 94544, 510/471-3363In lieu of flowers, donations to a charity of your choice; the Kidney Foundation, or Vitas Hospice, are suggested.
