Ghale ave Nanka Sade uthi jaheDalbir Singh Kahlon, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend passed away peacefully on October 26, 2015 in the presence of his loved ones. He was 82 years old. Mr. Kahlon was born to the late Bara Singh and Bishan Kaur on March 10, 1933 in Chak no 262, Lyallpur, Punjab.Dalbir Singh was blessed with a large and loving family who valued relationships and togetherness. Sadly, during the India-Pakistan Partition in 1947, he and his family had to leave their homes and the lives they had built and migrate from the Pakistan side of Punjab to Sarwali, Gurdaspur, Punjab. Shortly after, he joined the Indian Army and served his country with pride for 18 years. Dalbir Singh spoke five different languages and was an expert in morse code. Needless to say, he was a hero in many ways but had a humble heart. He retired from the Army with superior honors and decided to pursue his passion of agriculture through the family farm.Dalbir Singh and his wife re-united with their children when they moved to the United States in 1997. He watched his grandchildren grow up from crawling toddlers to adults, admirable individuals who he was esteemed to call his grandchildren. His family was his pride and joy. Dalbir Singh was a disciplinary man who applied the skills he learned in the army to his daily life. He was hardworking, strong, punctual, independent, and a socialite to say the least. He was the life of any conversation and always had stories to share from his various stages of life. He had a passion for poetry and was often heard showcasing his favorite lines or reciting his own creations. Despite his old age he stayed active, both mentally and physically. He was such a charismatic man and made many friends wherever he went. It is because of those strong bonds that people loved to spend time with him.Dalbir Singh is survived by his loving wife, Jaswinder Kaur; his two sons, Parminder Kahlon and Neetu Kahlon; his daughter Pardip Kaur; and his grandchildren Mandeep Kahlon, Randeep Kahlon, Harpreet Sandhu, Rajpreet Kahlon, Lovepreet Sandhu, and Najpreet Kahlon.Funeral services will be held at Chapel of the Chimes 32992 Mission Boulevard, Hayward, CA 94544 on October 30th at 1:00 p.m. and followed by Bhog services at The San Jose Sikh Gurdwara, 3636 Murillo Ave, San Jose, CA 95148.
