Clarence Hugh Gilmore, Sr. Clarence Hugh Gilmore, Sr. died peacefully at his home in Las Vegas, NV. Nov. 14, 2011. He was 79 years old. Clarence was born in Crockett, Texas to Payne and Bertha Gilmore on May 4, 1932, the 11th of 14th children. He was the younger brother of former Oakland Vice Mayor Carter Gilmore. He retired from the City of Oakland as Supervisor of the Public Works Department. He was a former President of the NAACP, Alameda and Hayward Branches for several years, also a veteran of the United States Army. He was active in politics and ran for Supervisor of Alameda County’s District 3 and for Hayward City Council. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Mamie Gilmore, 2 adult children, Clarence Jr. “Ricky” and Wannetta Hughes, 6 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren, 3 sisters, Olive Black, Erma Montgomery, Claudine Ary and 1 brother Paul Gilmore. Services will be held on Tues., Nov. 22, 2011 at 1:30 p.m. at Chapel of the Chimes, 32992 Mission Blvd, Hayward, CA. Wake/Quiet hour Mon., Nov 21, 2011, at 6pm Chapel of the Chimes. Visitation and Funeral Service will be in the Mission Chapel.
