Clara Elizabeth Marshman's Obituary
Clara Elizabeth (Brown) Marshman, 82, of San Lorenzo, California, passed away on Saturday evening, July 6, 2013. She was born on October 13, 1930 in Utica, New York, daughter of the late Rowe T. and Clara T. Brown.Clara was raised in Utica, New York with a large family. She was one of nine children. Clara graduated from Utica Free Academy. In July of 1953 she joined the Navy, as a WAVE, and later became USNR on Dec. 21, 1960. The Navy took her to Maryland and then California where she worked for over 25 years as part of the Alameda Naval Air Station, Alameda, California. Clara was athletic and enjoyed bowling and playing Badminton and Basketball for the WAVE’s team.On May 1, 1966, Clara married Fred L. Marshman in Alameda, California. The newlyweds spent some time in Ivory Coast, Africa and after a vacation in Spain settled in San Lorenzo, California till present. They enjoyed traveling together.Clara was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, (March 15, 1987), a brother and three sisters. She is survived by three brothers and one sister; Robert Brown of Woodstock, Georgia, Cherster Brown of Hauppauge, New York, Daniel Brown of Utica, New York, and Mary Jane (Brown) Lindfield of Utica, New York along with other relatives and friends.Clara’s life was remembered and celebrated on July 13, 2013 at Harbor Light Church in Fremont, California where she took great pleasure in attending. She loved the 23rd Psalms, old hymns, lumpia, orange chicken, pumpkin pie (no whipped cream) and cheese cake…just to name a few. She was a wonderful and thoughtful person and will be missed by many. She will be cremated and her ashes scattered at sea.
