Clara Lowe's Obituary
Clara passed away peacefully in her sleep on September 6, 2014. She was born Clara Elizabeth King in Sanger, Texas on March 3, 1920. She was the daughter of Roma Alva King and Katie Mae (Gentle) King. Clara met Harry Leon Lowe of Valley View, Texas on a blind date and they were married on March 2, 1940. During the war Harry moved to the Bay Area to work at Pacific Tire and Rubber in Oakland and Clara followed in a few months, after earning her bus fare by picking cotton. They had a daughter, Sandra Hayes Stewart in 1943 and in 1947 they moved to San Leandro from Oakland. Clara worked for Koret as a seamstress and continued her love and skill for sewing over the years. In 1952 she went to work for Kellogg’s Cereal on Williams Street in San Leandro and retired from there in 1980. She and Harry bought a house in Hayward in January 1953 and Clara lived there until September 2005 when she moved into Casa Sandoval in Hayward. Clara was a wonderful mother and homemaker, even after working for so many years. She was sweet and kind, and to use an old fashion phrase, “a real lady.” She is preceded in death by her husband Harry (1915-1996), her granddaughters Deanna Lynn Hayes (1961-1998) and Dana Marie Hayes (1962-2013) her brothers Alva, Roy, Ray and Clyde, all in Texas. She is survived by her daughter Sandy, Hayward, CA , and her sister Betty Jo Beard, Grand Prairie, Texas, as well and many wonderful nieces and nephews in Texas and a niece in Ohio. Many thanks to the staff at Casa Sandoval for their care and friendship. Visitation will be from 5PM to 7Pm on Wednesday, Sept 10th with services at Chapel of the Chimes on Mission Blvd. in Hayward 10 AM on Thursday, September 11, 2014. In lieu of flowers family requests any donations be made to the Arthritis Foundation, Kidney Foundation or the charity of your choice.
