Ching Fong Chen's Obituary
Ching-Fong was born to humble means in a small province of Taiwan. His parents were simple farmers, not able to provide much in terms of worldly possessions, but instilled in him a foundation of genuine kindness, sincerity, and a strong work ethic. His love of friends, family, and home led to a truly extraordinary life.Ching-Fong was born on November 25, 1954 and left this world in peace on November 10, 2016. At 15, he left home for Taipei, a big metropolitan city, in search of something that would help him change the trajectory of life he was born into. He graduated from high school there, went to college, and worked for 5 years. All the while, he continued to dream bigger and applied to graduate school in the US to study Electrical Engineering at the University of New Mexico. After graduation, he moved to Silicon Valley to work for 20 years as an engineer. In 2000, he left Engineering and decided to pursue his childhood dream of opening a business in an entirely new field. His whole life was filled with efforts to bravely try new things to improve himself and his family.Ching-Fong was a man of integrity who hated injustice and was motivated to challenge authority to speak the truth. This led him to be very involved in politics—not for riches or power, but to have a platform to speak up for what is right. He truly valued friendship and was loyal to a fault. He would go through any expense to protect his friends and preserve their dignity.Ching-Fong loved nature and adventure. He would often organize trips for friends to take them hiking or sight-seeing; he was a devoted tour guide. He loved music too. In Fremont, he established Da-Ai Choir, organized their weekly practices, and arranged annual performances. It was a lot of work, but under his direction and encouragement, they performed in many places and formed the deep bonds of family. His life and light will be missed by many, as his dedication to serving others won him many loyal friends. His generous, remarkable life primarily revolved around me and you. In our hearts, many beautiful memories of him will remain.
