Cesar M Eugenio's Obituary
“Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of His saints.” - Psalm 116:15
Cesar Mapili Eugenio peacefully passed away on February 1, 2023 in Elk Grove, California at the age of 89. He was surrounded by his children as he gently left this life on earth and entered into the presence of the Lord, meeting Him face-to-face.
His life exemplified one of steadfast faithfulness, kindness, and love. Cesar’s life was marked with selfless service to his family, friends, the Church, this country, and even to strangers. He was a sincerely disciplined, quiet and contemplative man whose depth of integrity and loyalty were present through his actions.
It is rare that a person can find love twice in a lifetime, but Cesar was blessed with receiving this gift. Cesar married his bride Elsa Lota Caccam and together they had three daughters and one son. They raised their children in San Leandro, California and had many years of love and laughter until Elsa passed away after 36 years of marriage. After a time of deep grief from her loss, Cesar met his future wife Ester Karganilla and three daughters and were blessed with 22 years of marriage, also living in San Leandro before she sadly passed away in August 2020.
Cesar was a U.S. Navy Vietnam Veteran. He received multiple medals and retired after over 25 years of service. His career continued with the federal government and he retired after years working for the US Maritime Administration – Department of Transportation traveling around the country as a Navy Ship Inspector.
Cesar faithfully attended Aurora Drive Baptist Church in San Leandro from 1970-1997 and then continued serving the Lord with his loving church family at Our Lady of Good Counsel until 2020 when he moved to Elk Grove, California to be closer to his eldest daughters.
He is survived by his 6 children: Nadine Tom, Carolyn Liard, Jocelyn Castaneda, Jonathan Eugenio, Ana Rafael, Leny Alotoya, 7 grandchildren: Andrew Yee, Nicole Yee, Ryan Tom, Sara Tom, Derek Tom, Micah Castaneda, Mariah Castaneda, and great-grandchildren: Isaiah Yee, Hunter Yee, Niko Yee, Bailey Castaneda, Marek Castaneda, and Gabriel Castaneda. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather.
