Celestine Gilkey, 68 passed away on Friday, March 22, 2002 at Highland Medical Center in Oakland, California. She was born to David Lee and Lucille Gilkey on March 19, 1934 in Oktana, Oklahoma. Celestine worked as a Nurse for 30 years at the VA Medical Center in Long Beach, California. She loved reading and traveling.Celestine was preceded in death by her daughter, sister and brother, Celeste Johnston, Juanita Glover and David Lee Gilkey, Jr. Celestine was a devoted mother to three daughters and three sons, Betty Lemmons of San Francisco, California Breeta Courtney of Oakland, California, Shirmael Grant of Las Vegas, Nevada, Vernon Gilkey of Oakland, California, Arnel Smith of Los Angeles, California and Maalik Grant of Oakland, California. She was a dear sister to two sisters and four brothers, Ruby Jean Miller of South Carolina, Carolyn Gilkey of Wichita, Kansas, Joseph Gilkey of Wichita, Kansas, Levi Curtis Gilkey of Oklahoma, Richard C. Gilkey of California and Luther J. Gilkey of Wichita, Kansas.
