Cathy Lynn Canning's Obituary
Cathy Lynn Canning (née Marengo), age 76, passed away peacefully on September 30, 2025, in Fremont, California, after a long and courageous battle with Alzheimer.
Born on March 26, 1949, in Hayward, California, Cathy was a lifelong Californian who built a life rooted in dedication to her family and her work. She graduated from Mt. Eden High School in 1967 and went on to forge an impressive 57-year career in banking, credit, and accounting. Her professional life reflected her sharp intellect and unwavering work ethic—qualities that those around her deeply admired. Cathy shared 54 years of marriage with her devoted husband, David Canning. Together they raised two children: Michelle Winters (née Canning) and Jason Canning of Livermore, California. Cathy was also a proud grandmother to Savannah (Auston Simpson), Donivan(Alex Winters), Michael Canning, and Stephen Canning. Her legacy continues through her great-grandchildren Kennan and AJ (Album Jean) Simpson also very soon to join the family Sloan Arden Winters. She is also survived by her sister Karey Marengo of Fremont, California. Cathy was predeceased by her brother Pat Marengo; her father Angelo Marengo; stepmother Refolla Marengo; and stepsister Anesha. Cathy found joy in the simple pleasures of life. She especially loved taking road trips to Reno and Lake Tahoe to play Texas Hold ’Em—a pastime that brought her both excitement and relaxation. Her daughter Michelle fondly remembers Cathy as the smartest person she has ever known—a sentiment echoed by many who had the privilege of knowing her. Cathy will be cremated according to her wishes. Her memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her as a loving sister, wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. May her memory bring comfort to those who knew her
