Catherine E. Troger's Obituary
Catherine Evans Troger March 7, 1927 – May 8, 2016 Union City, CaliforniaCatherine Evans Troger passed away on Mother’s Day after a short battle with cancer. She touched many lives and will be remembered for her kind nature and gentle humor.Cathy was born March 7, 1927 in Glasgow, Kentucky, the youngest of three children of Julius Porter Evans and Vida Emberton Evans. She married Earl Montgomery in 1948 and they subsequently moved to Santa Clara, California where she worked as a bookkeeper at Crocker Bank and Wells Fargo Bank. She and Earl divorced in January 1974 and she met Jim Troger later that year at a square dance. It was love at first sight for Jim. Cathy took little more time. They were married in Carson City, NV, on December 14, 1974. During their 41 years of marriage, they enjoyed antiquing and traveling, often traveling with her sister Lois and brother-in-law, Mac. Cathy and Jim have been to every state in the US as well as several European countries, where Cathy always purchased a small reminder of their travels for display in their home.Though she eventually developed Type 2 diabetes, Cathy still enjoyed the sweet things in life and often offered to share a dessert when out to eat at a restaurant. At Christmas, her grandchildren eagerly anticipated her delicious sugar-free cheesecake. Cathy loved their excitement and always insisted on making it herself instead of a store-bought cake. When she passed away, she and Jim were living at Acacia Creek Retirement Community in Union City, California, where she enjoyed forming new friendships, discovering new restaurants and playing bridge with the other residents. While she spent most of her adult life in California, she never lost her soft Southern drawl or her love of Kentucky.Family was important to her and she kept in touch with frequent phone calls with Lois and her brother, Porter, and traveling to Kentucky to see everyone. Cathy is survived by her husband, Jim, his daughters, Jennifer Troger and Mary Jill Peace, grandchildren Don Cuddihy (Kathy), Ken Cuddihy (April), Shannon Cuddihy, Jessica Freitas, 6 great-grandchildren, sister-in-law Dorothy Evans, nephews Jay and Mark Evans and niece Donna Rueff. She is so incredibly loved and will be greatly missed by all who knew her.She will be interred in the Evans family plot in Glasgow, Kentucky. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the American Diabetes Association or the American Cancer Society.
