Catherine Manning's Obituary
A memorial service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, October 23, 2004 at the Chapel of the Chimes 32992 Mission Blvd., Hayward for Catherine Agnes Manning, who died October 15, 2004 at age 93. Catherine was born June 2, 1911 in Oakland, California to the parents of August and Agnes Fleischer. She lived at times in Sacramento, Oakland and Alameda then settled in Castro Valley. She retired after 33 years of employment from the Alameda Naval Station where she worked as an aircraft fabrication worker in the upholstery and metal plating shops. She was active and held several officer positions with The Native Daughters of the Golden West, Daughters of Saint George, and the American Gold Star Mothers. She also volunteered for over 20 years at Oak Knoll Hospital in Oakland. After retirement, she returned to her first love of dancing and took numerous awards in competitive ballroom dancing. She married Joseph R. Keough in June, 1929. They divorced in 1943 following the births of their five children. In December 1949, she married Harold William Manning who later predeceased her in December, 1968. Survivors include her daughters Betty Marquardt, Mary Camacho; sons Robert Keough and Richard Keough. Her son William Keough was killed in Korea in May of 1951 while serving in the U.S. Army. Catherine was blessed with 14 grandchildren, and 30 great grandchildren, and 10 great-great grandchildren.
