Catherine Davidovich's Obituary
In Loving Memory of Catherine Davidovich, 1916 – 2014Catherine was born September 12th, 1916 to Dragutin and Sophia Ganitch. She was raised on a farm in Mogadore, Ohio. Catherine graduated from Mogadore High School where she played on the girls’ basketball team. Catherine married her sweetheart Steve Davidovich on November 24th, 1938. In June of 1941 their first son Theodore was born. Two years later another son, Steven, was born in September of 1943. While still living in Akron, Ohio, Catherine worked wrapping candy in the Dum-Dum factory. In 1945 the family moved to Oakland, California and Catherine went to work at Little Lady Lingerie where she stayed for a number of years. The family moved from Oakland to San Leandro in 1963. When Castro Valley High School opened, Catherine went to work there as a matron. She worked there 22 ½ years until she retired in 1978.In August, 1967, Catherine saw her first son, Ted, married to Kathrin. In 1968, Catherine’s second son Steven was married to Janet. During the next few years, Catherine was blessed with four grandchildren- Cherish, Catrice, Ilya and Nicolas.Catherine was an avid A’s fan from the time the A’s arrived in Oakland. She went to almost all the home games each year!Catherine and her husband Steve celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in 1988, with many great friends and family in attendance. Catherine lost Steve in 1989, and her first granddaughter, Cherish, in 1991. As one of 14 siblings, Catherine lost most of her family as she progressed through her 98 years of life. Only two remain, her brother Mickey and sister Jeannette. After a short hospital stay, Catherine’s passing was very peaceful, at her home in San Leandro.
