Catherine Elizabeth Cameron BergerMay 30, 1919 to October 13, 2006 Catherine Berger was born Catherine Elizabeth Cameron, May 30, 1919 in Seattle, Washington. Her parents were Effie and Kenneth Cameron who had been residents of Scotland and immigrated to the United States. Catherine had two older brothers, Kenneth and Donald, and the family moved to Hayward, California while Catherine was still a baby. Catherine attended local schools and a business college. In 1940, Catherine met and married her husband of 66 years, Clarence Berger, and they lived near her family in Hayward. Catherine and Clarence continued to live in the Bay Area and in 1954, bought a home in San Leandro where they resided until 2002, when they bought a home in Carmichael, CA to be near family. Catherine worked at Cypress Steel in Oakland for many years as a bookkeeper and after retiring chose to go back to work part time again as a bookkeeper. Catherine was a strong, talented woman who excelled in her chosen profession, was a wonderful homemaker and mother, and a superb seamstress. She was active in the East Oakland Business & Professional Women's Club and served as President more than once. Catherine was also a member of the local Teamsters Union. Catherine and Clarence had two sons, Calvin and Gordon, two grandsons, Michael and David, one great-grandson, Anthony and her daughter-in-law Barbara. The last two years of her life, Catherine became very close to her grand-daughter-in-law, Rosaria. Cathy was a warm and generous woman who cared deeply for her family. She will be missed.
