Caroline M. Longacre's Obituary
Caroline M. Longacre Resident of San Leandro Caroline passed away peacefully at the Bancroft Convalescent Hospital in San Leandro on April 17, 2010. Caroline was born in Burke, South Dakota to Charles and Emma Holub. She graduated from Schuyler High School in Schuyler, Nebraska. Caroline was employed at the Implement Company in Schuyler where she met her future husband, Neal Longacre. They were married on June 12, 1944 in Kileen, Texas while Neal was serving in the army. They moved to California in 1946 and eventually settled in San Leandro. Caroline was a homemaker and loved cooking and baking, as well as hosting large family gatherings for the holidays. She especially loved spending time with her family, as well as gardening, reading, and vacationing in Lake Tahoe and Hawaii. Caroline later returned to work, and was employed at the State Health Department in Berkeley until her retirement in 1998. She was preceded in death by her husband Neal of 46 years, son Terry, brother Joseph Holub, and brother-in-law Joe Moose. Caroline is survived by her daughter and son-in-law Karen and Ken Birchfield, son and daughter-in-law Royce and Marcy Longacre, daughter-in-law Carol Longacre; grandchildren, J Birchfield, Kara Birchfield, Caroline Fritz (Husband Mark), Darrell Longacre, Kenny Longacre, and Wendy Longacre; great granddaughter Chelsea Longacre; sister Doris Moose and brother Charles Holub; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Caroline has left a void with her children, family and friends who love and will dearly miss her. Caroline was a member of All Saints Episcopal Church in San Leandro. Viewing and visitation to be held Sunday April 25 from 4:30 to 8:30pm and the funeral on Monday, April 26 at 1:30 pm at the Chapel of the Chimes, 32992 Mission Blvd., Hayward.
