Carlota De Guzman's Obituary
Carlota De Guzman was born on April 28, 1921 in Malabon, Rizal Philippines to Atanacio and Hermogena Domingo de Guzman. She was the 5th child of 12 siblings. Her family moved to Gagalangin, Tondo in Manila when she was in elementary school. Carlota married her former spouse Geronimo Mendoza on February 9, 1947 and had 5 children. In 1966 she moved to Guam and was later joined by her children. In 1968, Carlota and her children immigrated to San Francisco where she worked as a nurse for the San Francisco Public Health Department.Carlota was a very strong and determined woman. Her father wanted her to be a lawyer because of these qualities, but she wanted to be a nurse and help the sick. So after high school she continued her education and reached her goal of becoming a nurse. Carlota was very compassionate and dedicated to giving her all to whatever she set out to do. After she retired from her career of service as a nurse she continued to be of service by joining the Peace Corps in 1978. She was a Nurse Instructor in Liberia, West Africa, where she taught student nurses in a Mission School of Nursing. When she returned from the Peace Corps she continued to serve others by devoting her time to diverse volunteer services.Carlota enjoyed attending classes at the Fremont Senior Center, bowling with the Young at Hearts league and taking classes of interest at community colleges. Most importantly, she was a model of faith for her whole family. Carlota’s devotion to others stemmed from her love of God and His commandments to love and serve one another. Carlota’s continual prayers for her family are the reason her family is so blessed today.Carlota passed away on February 17, 2018 surrounded by loved ones. Carlota is survived by her brother Jonathan De Guzman, sisters Darby Yusi and Martha Dayrit, and children Emmanuel (Noel), Emma Lina, Emma Luz and Geronimo Jr. (Gerry).
