Bonny DePoyster Obituary Born June 10, 1922 Died January 24th 2017 Bonny DePoyster was born in Red Bay, Alabama, and raised in Corinth, Mississippi. With a VA loan, Sergeant, Bonny purchased a home for his mother in San Leandro, California after he, and his brother Benny discharged from the army after World War II. A grocer by trade he worked for Freeman Market, and Safeway until starting his business. In 1958 Bonny, and his business partner Joe lees, opened Ventur Market in Hayward. He was the loved, local grocer on Gading Road, and proud owner for fifty years, and one day. Bonny enjoyed hunting, fishing, bowling, reading, westerns, and was an avid golfer. A member of 243, Acacia Lodge, Bonny was a Free Mason, A Candidate Coach, and Hiram Award recipient. He was the last surviving member of his VFW Post # 7636. Bonny died peacefully at home surrounded by his daughter, and family after a long battle with emphysema. He was preceded in death by his parents James Robert and Eugenia DePoyster. He was preceded in death by his siblings Robert/Son DePoyster, Maybelle DePoyster Bray, Josephine DePoyster Carey, Mack DePoyster Black, and Benny DePoyster. He was also preceded in death by his beloved wife, Barbara DePoyster. Bonny is survived by his five children Kimberly McLellan, Dennis McLellan, Carol McLellan Salomon, Lee Ann DePoyster, JoAnn Depoyster, seven grandchildren, six great grandchildren, cousins, nieces, and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 10 AM Saturday, February 4th, 2017 at Chapel of the Chimes located at 32992 Mission Boulevard, Hayward. Past Master Jeff Borup presiding. Flowers are welcome, as are donations to Shriners Hospital in his memory. Refreshments will be served at Bonny’s home immediately following.
