Billy S. Tripp's Obituary
Bill Tripp78, of San Leandro, passed away suddenly on Saturday, October 23.Devoted husband of 52 years to Helen Tripp. Loving father of Penny Sweeny of Santa Rosa, Julie Viada of San Leandro, and Ron Tripp of Livermore; loving brother of Donald Tripp of Castro Valley, Ca. He was preceded in death by his Father, Henry, Mother, Ethel, and Sister Donna Witt. He had 8 grandchildren, and 2 great-grandchildren.After graduating as Valedictorian of McClymonds High School in Oakland Ca., in 1944, he served in the US Navy in Japan, near the end of WWII, and later attended UC Berkeley. He withdrew from college after the death of his father to support his family.He met Helen in 1950, at a dance at Elmhurst Methodist Church, and they were married in 1952. Always a devoted family man, he was very active in support of his family's activities, including sports, music, and theater. He was a Master Mason in San Leandro Lodge #113, and held officer positions with the local Eagle and Moose lodges.After his retirement in 1991, he and Helen were very active, performing with the Hayward Stompers dance troupe. He was an avid gardener, with a special love for his orchids, sharing plants and advice with those he loved. He will be remembered by his numerous friends for his sense of humor, generous nature, kindness, and willingness to help others in need.A celebration of his life will be held on Friday, October 29, at Chapel of the Chimes Mortuary, 32992 Mission Blvd., Hayward, Ca., at 1:00 p.m.In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Masons, or the American Heart Association.Chapel of the ChimesMemorial Park and Funeral HomeHayward, CA 94544 (510) 471-3363"Service of Marked Distinction"
