Beverly Jane Portillo's Obituary
Beverly Portillo, a 19-year resident of Hayward, California, passed away in her home on March 31, 2017. She was 83 years old. Beverly was born in Charlotte, North Carolina and lived there through her high school graduation. She joined the United States Navy in 1951 and served as a Hospital Corpsman until 1957. During that time she met her future husband, Edward Portillo, when they served together at the Oakland Naval Hospital. They were married in May 1957, and had four children: Alan of Coronado, CA, Pamela, who passed away in 2005, Robert of Redding, CA, and Michael of Pleasant Hill, OR. They raised their family in Richmond, CA, where she lived until she relocated to Hayward in 1998. She worked as a legal clerk for Contra Costa County until her retirement in 1995. She possessed a deep love of animals and volunteered as a docent at the Oakland Zoo since 1996. She was a member of St. Clement Catholic Parish in Hayward.Beverly was predeceased by her husband in 1989, her daughter in 2005, and her grandson Adam in 2011. She is survived by her remaining three children and their families, to include 7 grandchildren. She is also survived by two sisters, Jackie McAteer of Garden City, SC, and Anita Fauteux of Augusta, GA. Funeral Services were held at St. Clement Catholic Church in Hayward on April 10, 2017, and she is interred at St. Joseph Cemetery in San Pablo, CA.
