Betty Charlotte Woodall's Obituary
BETTY CHARLOTTE WOODALL BETTY CHARLOTTE WOODALL Passed away peacefully with family in attendance on April 10th, 2007 after suffering several ailments that eventually took her home to be with her beloved Savior. Born Betty Charlotte Reichrath on March 12th, 1924 in Mt. Clemens, MI she grew up and lived there until meeting and marrying Norman Russell Woodall, a dashing member of the Army Air Corps originally from Frankfort, KY. They married in June of 1943. She and her husband supported our country as he served as a master gunner in both the European and Pacific theatres of World War II. After VE and VJ days, they lived in post WWII England until 1955 when they returned to the United States and like many others of their generation headed west, settling in Oakland, CA. Their only son, John was born in 1961 and Betty became a devoted and loving mother and housewife. Always frugal, wise and hard working, she created a home that was inviting and comfortable. She loved her God to whom she had committed her life in 1961. Her spiritual hunger eventually led Betty to join Bible Study Fellowship and eventually she became a teaching leader; mentoring, nurturing and fostering the spiritual growth of many other women. Betty returned to work when her husband, Norman was diagnosed with terminal cancer in 1974 and she became a widow in 1979 upon his passing after 36 years of marriage. Betty in this time-frame began work at Grand Lake Gardens as a receptionist and administrative assistant. Her presence was a constant anchor, either in person or on the phone. She pursued her love of the written word by taking creative writing classes as she loved poetry and the play of words she took up painting, decorating her home (and others!) with her own handiwork, artistic flair and creativity. Betty continued working at Grand Lake and became a resident in 1990 making many friends along the way, in many ways; it was and remains an extension of her family. Betty will be missed in person by all fortunate enough to have known her, but she is at peace with her Lord, re-united with her husband and surrounded by love. She is survived by her son John of San Jose, CA along with his wife Cyndi and her three grandchildren whom she adored; Tori, Austin and Andrew. Friends and Family are welcome to attend a Visitation on Tuesday, April 17th from 2:00 to 4:00 PM at the Chapel of the Chimes in Oakland, located at 4499 Piedmont Avenue, Oakland, CA 94611 and a Celebration of Life on Monday, April 23rd at 3:00 PM at Grand Lake Gardens, 401 Santa Clara Ave., Oakland CA 94610.
