Betty M. Kitani's Obituary
Birth Date: March 3, 1929 Death Date: February 4, 2018 Betty M. Kitani, 88 years old, resident of Fremont, died peacefully at home after a long illness on Sunday, February 4, 2018 surrounded by her family. Betty was one of eight children born in Watsonville, CA where her family operated a strawberry farm. After the death of her father when she was a young child, she lived in Japan for a short period of time before returning to Watsonville. During World War II, her family was sent to an internment camp located in Poston, Arizona. When the war ended, her family moved to Columbus, OH. Her family eventually returned to Watsonville to resume strawberry farming where she lived until her marriage to Masukuni Kitani. They settled in Fremont, CA where they became successful vegetable farmers and started their family. Betty was active with her church and was a big San Francisco Giants fan. She enjoyed family vacations and trips to Reno and Lake Tahoe to gamble. She was an active, caring, giving, and compassionate person who enjoyed the company of family and friends. One of her greatest joys in life was becoming a grandmother and great-grandmother. She was preceded in death by her husband, Masukuni Kitani who passed away in 2004. She is survived by her children, Jeffrey Kitani (Leeanne Kitani) of Fremont, CA and Pamela Kitani of Folsom, CA; grandchildren, Ashley Kitani, twins Jeffrey and Joshua Kitani and Jason Calibo of Fremont, CA; great grandchildren Makai Lavarias and Aoki Lavarias of Fremont, CA. She is also survived by many friends, relatives, nieces and nephews. She will be greatly missed by all. In accordance with her wishes, a private funeral is scheduled at Chapel of the Chimes in Hayward on February 27, 2018.
