BETTY JO DEVANE-HOBSON's Obituary
Betty is survived by her loving husband of 61 years, Henry R. Hobson and by daughters, Cheryl A. Vosicka (Alexander) of Tracy, CA; Catherine J. Campiotti of Salida, CA; and Cynthia D. Pappas (Mike) of Belmont, CA.Grandchildren: Carl M. Vosicka (Katherine) Clackamas, OR; Sara D. Young (Andrew) Hawaiian Gardens, CA; Melissa M. Campiotti and Jessika J. Campiotti, Salida CA; Michael Pappas, Santa Barbara, CA; and Jonathan Pappas, Belmont, CA.Great Grandson: Vincent A. Young, Hawaiian Gardens, Ca.Nephews: Michael K. Goforth, Danville, CA and Steven C. Goforth (Cynthia), Sonora, CA Betty was born in Nashville, Berrien County, Georgia and lived there until she was 10 years old. In 194 she left Nashville and came to Oakland, CA by train with her mother Dorothy M. Daniels. While in elementary and Jr. High school, Betty loved to tap dance and performing in recitals. While attending Hayward High school Betty was in a sorority and several different student service clubs. She met the love of her live, Henry R. Hobson through mutual friends.Henry and Betty eloped in Reno Nevada and were married on October 2, 1956, residing in Hayward, CA. A year later they welcomed their first daughter Cheryl in November 1957. A couple of years later they moved to Newark, CA and Betty and Hank had another daughter Catherine (Cathy) in March, 1961. A couple of years after that they moved to Fremont and their family grew again, having Cynthia (Cindy) in August, 1964.Betty worked for Continental Can and Continental White Cap where Betty held several jobs; Secretary to Plant Manager, and had a dual position of Purchasing Manager and Production Control Manager. She retired in 1993 after 38 years.In 1973 Betty and Hank purchased land in Twain Harte and built a “cabin” home. This took several years to finish and became their residence after retirement. Betty was a member of the Mountain Spring, Golf Club in Sonora, she loved playing Golf. Betty was also a volunteer for he Republican Party and Sonora Food Bank. Betty loved to cook, she was famous for her Southern fried chicken, meatloaf, venison in wine sauce and stuffed mushrooms. She loved hosting Thanksgiving and Christmas dinners for her loving and growing family.After retirement Betty and Hank traveled to Alaska in their RV and went to visit family in Nashville, GA. They also traveled around the United States playing golf with their SIR’s Golf Club.Betty was a sweet, kind, faithful and loving person and dedicated to her family. She was a person who saw the positive side of everything. Betty will be dearly missed by her loving husband, family and close dear friends.Betty was preceded in death by her mother and Step-father Dorothy Mae and Grover Daniels.
