Bette L Peters' Obituary
Born in Albany, California to Abel and Madeline Lemes, Bette grew up in Oakland and graduated from Fremont High School before attending Cal Berkeley. Bette belonged to the Order of Rainbow for Girls, serving as Worthy Advisor for Oakland Assembly #11 and later be- coming a lifetime member of Eastern Star San Lorenzo Chapter. In 1947 Bette was named Grand Worthy Advisor of California Rainbow for Girls and traveled throughout the state. Another member of Rainbow introduced Bette to Vernon Peters and they married in 1948, first residing in Oakland, then San Leandro.
Throughout her life Bette enjoyed gardening and time with friends and family. She loved hummingbirds, Betty Boop and all things Santa.
Bette was predeceased by her true love Vernon, sister Patricia and son in law Frank Knox.
She is survived by her son Steven, daughter Karen Knox, grandsons Robert Knox (CJ) and Michael Knox (Lindsay), great granddaughters Naomi Knox and Isla Knox. Bette leaves behind several nieces and nephews whom she loved dearly. Bette will also be missed by wonderful friends from Steven and Karen’s school days as well as her family of the heart, Donna, Bea, George and Carolyn. In the last few years Bette was assisted by wonderful caretakers: originally, Maureen, followed by Lee, Butch, Fe, Anna. Sadly, many of her lifetime friends are gone, but some of those were friendships that spanned 70 plus years. In lieu of flowers the family encourages donations to your favorite charity, planting flowers in your garden or letting someone in your life know how important they are.
