Berniece Sue Tolbertson's Obituary
Berniece Sue Tolbertson went home to be with the Lord early Friday morning, June 1, 2018. She was dearly loved, and will be missed by her family, friends and all who knew her.Sue was born August 23, 1937 in Shawnee, Oklahoma to Elonzo and Jewel Brasiel. She was the youngest of five children. At a young age, Sue and her family moved from Oklahoma to Hayward, California. They lived in Russell City community and surrounding areas for many years, making many lasting friendships. While Sue was working in Hayward, she met Dale – the love of her life. They were married on September 21, 1957, and were blessed with three children: Donna, Gary and Ricky. They built a house in San Leandro, where they raised their children and spent many precious years together. Sue and Dale were married 43 years before Dale went home to be with the Lord in 2001.Sue loved to have fun, spend time with her family and listen to country and gospel music, and music from the 50’s. You could always count on her for a game of Spite and Malice. Sue enjoyed jokes and pranks, and was considered by everyone who knew her to be the life of the party! As her family grew, she was blessed with six grandchildren: Randy II, Joel, Christopher, Nicole, Eric and Bryce. It was very evident how proud she was of them, by the pictures in her house and how often she spoke about them. She was also blessed to be a great grandmother to Kennedy and Marley. In 2006, Sue left her home in San Leandro and moved to Manteca. She quickly settled into life in her new town, with her new friends. She was very active in social groups as well as her church, Central Valley Baptist. Over the past few years, Sue’s health began to decline. Her children and grandchildren are thankful for her nieces, Carolyn and Mindy, who moved in with Sue to help care for her.Sue was preceded in death by her parents, Elonzo and Jewel Brasiel, her siblings, Orpha Yeary, Carl Brasiel, Herman Braisel, and her husband Dale Tolbertson.Sue will be lovingly remembered by her children Donna and Randy Brown, Gary and Theresa Tolbertson, Ricky Tolbertson, her grandchildren Randy Brown II, Joel Brown, Christopher Tolbertson, Nicole Brown, Eric Tolbertson and Bryce Tolbertson. She is also survived by her great granddaughters Kennedy and Marley, and her sister, Ellen Newby.Sue was loved and will be missed all who were blessed to know her. We can rest assured that she is in the presence of our Lord and Savior, because at a young age she professed her faith. We are confident she is rejoicing in heaven with those who have gone on before her.A funeral service to honor Sue’s memory will be held at 12 noon on Monday, June 11, 2018 at Chapel of the Chimes, 32992 Mission Blvd, in Hayward, preceded by visitation from 11:00am to 11:30am. Interment will be at Lone Tree Cemetery in Hayward, followed by a gathering of friends and family at the Lone Tree Cemetery Amphitheater.
