Bernice M. Silveira March 4, 1930 to December 13, 2013Bernice M. Silveira passed away peacefully on December 13, 2013 in Fremont surrounded by her loving Family. She was born Bernice Homen on March 4, 1930 as one of seven children to Manuel and Mary Homen. She was raised on a dairy farm in Newark, CA and later moved to Union City. After graduating from Washington High School in 1948, Bernice worked for many years as a Lab Technician at Holly Sugar in Alvarado. On September 12, 1948 Bernice married the love of her life, Norman M. Silveira. Together they raised two beautiful daughters and shared 65 wonderful years.Bernice was a member of the SPRSI, VFW Paul E. Rivers Post 7906 Ladies Auxiliary, and President of the Alvarado Elementary School PTA.Bernice will be missed by many, especially her beloved husband Norman Silveira, two treasured daughters Norma (David) Armstrong of Turlock and Debbie (Grant) Knupfer of Union City, cherished Grandchildren Kristen (David) Noel, Scott (Amanda) Knupfer, Ryan Knupfer, and Eric (Stacey) Armstrong, adored Great Grandchildren Jordan, Brendan, Jackson, Titus, Elliana, Josiah, and Victoria, loved sisters Alvena (Maurice) Leal, Gerry (Ed) Perry, brother Larry (Jerrie) Homen, brother-in-law John Ponsiano, sisters-in-law Betty Homen, Delores Homen and Jeanette Ramm, many nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was preceded in death by parents, Manuel and Mary Homen, brothers Manuel and Tony Homen and sister Mary Ponsiano.Visitation will be on Wednesday, December 18th from 5 pm to 9 pm at Chapel of the Chimes, 32992 Mission Blvd, Hayward CA, 510-471-3363.Services will be held at Chapel of the Chimes on Thursday, December 19th at 9 am.Burial will take place on Thursday, December 19th at 1 pm at the San Joaquin Valley National Cemetery, 32053 West McCabe Road, Santa Nella CA, 209-854-1040.In lieu of flowers, the family request donations to be made in her memory to your local Hospice or the National Multiple Sclerosis Society for research (www.nationalmssociety.org).
