Bernard Lipscomb's Obituary
Bernard was born April 1, 1933 in New York, N.Y. Upon graduation from high school, he enlisted in the United States Air Force on February 5, 1952. Three years later, he married the love of his life, Dolores Holland at St. Benedict the Moor Church in Jamaica, N.Y. on May 1, 1955, a marriage that would last 52 years until her passing on August 20, 2008. He leaves behind 3 daughters, Cynthia, Lisa and Katrina, 6 Grandchildren – Tanisha, Taylor, Dwayne, Lamont, Courtney and Tiara, and 5 Great-Grandchildren, Steven, Dominic, Mikai, Aniyah and Akheela. Bernard retired from 20 years of service with the Air Force as a SMSGT on December 1, 1972 with several Medals of Commendation. He then completed another 20 years of service with Alameda County Social Services as an Appeals Officer, while obtaining a Masters Degree from Cal State University of Hayward. Bernard was a loving and devoted Husband and family Man. He had countless long-time friends who loved and admired him, and whom he loved as well. He was entertaining, funny and gracious beyond belief and it was always a joy to be around him. His laughter, arrogance, obnoxiousness, stubbornness and all around goofiness was an intricate part of who he was…he was the ultimate Jokester…a true April Fool!!!!! Those who knew Bernard were very fortunate…those who didn’t missed out on a Great Man. We love you, Dad…you will be in our hearts forever.
