Benjamin Manalo Cruz's Obituary
With profound sorrow and deep sadness, Chapel of the Chimes announces the passing of Benjamin Manalo Cruz, aged 88, of Walnut Creek, California. Ben passed away peacefully on morning of May 4, 2025, in Walnut Creek.
Born on Corregidor Island, Philippines, on June 3, 1936, Ben was the 5th of the 8 children of Antonio and Maura Cruz. Ben spent most of his childhood growing up in the town of Calumpit in the Philippine province of Bulacan, where he finished high school. In 1955, he came the United States, and enlisted in the U.S. Air Force, where he spent the next 4 years serving his new country. Upon completion of his service, he went on to earn his bachelor's degree in accounting and finance from San Francisco State University. He began his professional career at Crocker Bank, where he worked for several years before joining Chevron, where he eventually retired after dedicating over 30 years of his professional life.
Ben was a loving and generous person, who had a passion for life and loved to share it with his family and friends, often hosting social gatherings to celebrate holidays and other special occasions. He was an avid golfer and traveler and held season tickets for his beloved San Francisco Giants and Forty Niners, reflecting his passion for sports.
Ben was married to Caroline Enos in 1971 but later divorced in 1974. He is survived by his sister, Aurora, and though he had no children of his own, “Tito Ben”, (as he was warmly referred to) served as a father-figure to each his 17 nephews and nieces, and 22 grand nephews and nieces.
Ben's family and friends will gather to celebrate his life at Holy Spirit Church, located at 37588 Fremont Blvd, Fremont, CA 94536, on May 23, 2025, at 10 am.
