Beatrice Lewis' Obituary
We have lost a truly great and honorable woman. Beatrice Lewis departed her earthly life on her way to her eternal life in the early morning hours of October 10, 2019 from St. Rose Medical Center surrounded by loved ones. She will be sincerely missed by all who knew her.Beatrice was born in Altheimer, Arkansas on July 2, 1943 to David E. Washington Sr. and Sarah J. Washington. She was the sixth child born to this union. She graduated Altheimer High School in Arkansas. Beatrice gave her life to Christ at an early age where she joined Mt. Zion Baptist church and was baptized in Altheimer AR. In 1966 she gave birth to her first born Son and she later moved to California to begin a new life. She worked many years in the dry cleaning business. She later went back to school where she studied Medical Transcription and joined Children’s hospital in Oakland as a Medical Transcriptionist where she retired.In 1986 Beatrice joined Saints Rest Missionary Baptist Church in Oakland, Ca. In March of 1986 Beatrice married John T. Lewis of Oakland, Ca. The wedding ceremony was performed Rev James Lawson. There she joined the choir and was a member until her health began to fail her serving under great pastors such as Rev James Lawson and Rev. James Anderson. She later moved to Hayward, Ca and joined Shiloh Baptist church where she became a member of the Mother’s board where she served until she was called home. She is preceded in death by her parents David and Sarah Washington, Sister Bervee Thorns and Brother David Washington Jr.Beatrice leaves to cherish her memory the love of her life and devoted husband of 33 years John T. Lewis. She also leaves sister Pearl Howard of Little Rock, AR brother Carl Lee Washington Peggy Washington (wife) of Los Angeles, Ca two sons Dennis K. Washington Sr. Angelina Washington (Wife) of Fairfield, Ca Cornelius Lewis of Hayward, Ca grandsons, Dennis K. Washington II of Fairfield, Ca Blake Washington of Fairfield, Ca. and Forrest Washington, of Albuquerque, NM two great grands Dennis III and Willow Rae Washington and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.We can together celebrate her life through laughter, memories and the memory of the lives she touched. Although this angel is no longer with us, she is able to embrace her mother dear Sarah Washington.
