Baldev Singh Bains' Obituary
Baldev “Dave” Bains, 67, died Saturday, October 22, 2016 at home from complications related to appendix cancer. Under his wife’s dedicated care for several weeks, he passed peacefully in his sleep in the early hours.In spirit, he is with his wife, Kulwant Bains of over 44 years, son Mandeep Bains and daughter-in-law Harpreet Bains, along with grandson Taranjit Bains, daughter Monider “Rajni” DeMars and son-in-law Drew DeMars, and son Satinder Bains and daughter-in-law Sandhya “Cindy” Bains, along with grandson Amanbir Bains and granddaughter Navleen Bains.He was preceded in death by his beloved brother Davinder Bains in 1989, and mother Joginder Bains in 2013, and finally his father Kartar Bains in 2014.Baldev Bains was born in Punjab on November 19, 1948. The youngest of four siblings, raised in a village of Nangal in the Hoshiarpur District. As a young boy, he enjoyed roaming through the bustling village, jumping across from one rooftop to another.At the tender age of 16, Baldev along with his brother and father arrived in Higham, a village in Southeast England to look for work. It was 1964, the arrival of the Beatles. The beatnik fashion trends was the inspiration for his dapper style for decades to follow.In 1966, Baldev and his father along with his brother Sukhdev, settled in Yuba City, and his sister Mohan Thiara arrived later in 1972. He finished high school in Yuba City and pursued a business degree at Chico State. After completing his AA degree he decided to look for work, and was just a few units shy of his Bachelor’s degree.In 1972, he married his wife Kulwant in India. With limited resources for recording, Baldev captured the ceremony on audio tape and chose the accompaniment of a romantic ballad by Mohammed Rafi, ‘Baharo Phool Barsao.’In marriage bliss, Baldev and his wife would head back to Yuba City, and joined in farm work along with their brothers, sisters, and friends. In 1977, he left to follow his brother Davinder to Union City, California to start a new life.Three beautiful babies later, Baldev started work at Hudson Lumbar Company in San Leandro in 1979, as a machine operator. He along with his wife would work over twenty years there until the factory shut down. After the lumbar factory shut down, Baldev found work at Westland Giftware as a warehouse foreman for 10 years then worked at Legacy for three years.Baldev’s legacy is his endless devotion to provide for his family and help his friends. He had the heart of a lion and a remarkable sense of humor. He immersed himself in his work tirelessly to ensure his family a secure future.He loved watching Hindi and Punjabi films, and watching his grandsons playing hide-and-seek. He spent his final healthy days still caring for his family, spending time with his grandson Taranjit, taking him and dropping him off to school, buying him donuts, and would show him how to be a handyman. Then he would take his other grandson Aman, to the park, and would teach him how to sing classic Hindi songs. In the afternoons, he would take his newborn granddaughter Navleen for a surprise visit at his wife’s work. He spent many mornings loving on her and watching her grow.He was loved by everyone and will be greatly missed.
