Astra Gabriel's Obituary
Services for Astra Gabriel, of Livermore, Ca, will begin at 1:00 pm on August 18th at St Philip Lutheran Church in Dublin.Astra was born in Latvia, but grew up in the US. She lived in Ohio until she moved to California with her family in 1960. She graduated from Armstrong College with a business degree in 1968. Married and raised 2 children, during which she continued on at St Mary's College for her masters degree in 1979.She worked at Hexcel for 14 years and the Livermore Lab for 18 years. She even had several side businesses, such as Weekenders, Herbalife & Travel Agent.She loved to travel the world and was involved in many clubs and organizations. (such as ski clubs, dive club, church, support groups) She enjoyed being active and loved the outdoors. She enjoyed snow skiing, scuba, biking, hiking, photography, wine tasting and she loved to dance, cook and entertain. She loved life and lived it to the fullest.Although she lived a healthy life, she battled cancer 4 times before she lost her fight. Her strength was admired by all who knew her. She is survived by her two Daughters, Debbie Phelps of Livermore, CA and Renee Pletcher of Brookings, Oregon; her Grandaughter, Samantha Pletcher; her two son in laws, Gregg Phelps and Ron Pletcher; her Significant Other, D. Steven James of Castro Valley, CA; and her two cousins, Gil Grieze from Lake Almanor, CA and Ed Grieze with wife Kate from Westminster, Colorado; and finally, her Goddaughter, Baiba Tolpeznikova from Latvia.She will be missed dearly by her family members, by many friends, and by her community. Her energy and spirit will live on in all of us who knew her.Her final resting place will be in the Circle of Peace Mausoleum at the Chapel of the Chimes in Hayward, Ca.
