Antonio Hernandez's Obituary
TONY (ANTONIO) HERNANDEZ Passed away peacefully on Tuesday, March 25, 2008. He was 85. Tony was born in Rocklin, CA on September 30, 1922. He was graduated from Hayward High School, where he held numerous track records as well as playing on the baseball team as a left-handed First Baseman. After High School, Tony played for the San Francisco Seals the Pacific Coast Baseball League until he enlisted in the US Navy. He served for 4 years during World War II. After returning from the war, he was employed by Hunt-Wesson Foods in Hayward until his retirement. After retiring from Hunt-Wesson, he became manager of the Pueblo Springs Mobile Home Park until 1999, when he retired for the second time. Tony loved baseball, his favorite team was the SF Giants. He also loved the California Bears and was an avid sports fan, be it baseball, basketball or football. Tony was appreciated by all who knew him and had many friends. He dined at the local restaurants and his favorite donut shop where he and his friends would try to solve the world’s problems. In December 2007, Tony’s children, grandchildren and great grandchild, who he adored, were fortunate to spend 10 days with him together on a family vacation. He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 48 years, Lillian, his parents, Peter and Antonia Hernandez and his brothers, Clarence, Peter, Gordon and Martin Hernandez. He is survived by his daughter, Pamela Smith and son and daughter-in-law, Tony and Dale Hernandez; grandchildren, Joshua and Jessica Mintz, Tory Hernandez and great grandchild Ayden Mintz and 2 sisters, Marie Lario and Lucy Ballentyne. Tony will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him. Family and friends are invited to a Memorial Service on Tuesday, April 1, 2008 at 1:30 pm at the Chapel of the Chimes Memorial Park and Funeral Home, 32992 Mission Blvd., Hayward, CA 94544.
