Antonia Adona Lising's Obituary
Antonia “Toniang” Adona Lising, 85, peacefully passed away on Saturday, October 3, 2015 at Kaiser Permanente Hospital in San Leandro, CA. Antonia was born on July 5, 1930 in Fort Stotsenburg, Sapang Bato, Angeles, Philippines to Antonio Adona and Maria Quito. At the age of 5, her mother passed away. She was raised by her Aunt Mama Decking and briefly by her Aunt Pelang.Antonia was the beloved wife of Juan Santos Lising and mother of their five children, Eduardo Lising (Teresita Lising), Cynthia Lising Megia (Loreto Megia), Rolando Lising (Esmeralda Lising), Leonardo Lising (Jennifer Lising), and Mareleo Lising (Lisa Lising). She was the loving grandmother of 13 grandchildren, Liadona (Felipe), Christian (Renee), Jeva (Brian), Jossa, Anthony (Odette), Joanlia, Thia, Jonia, Julius, Janmarlo, Jandalei, Janno and Asia. She was blessed to spend time with her 7 great-grandchildren, Aga, Alaina, Andrew, Elijah, J.C, Jeremiah and Leilani.Antonia met fellow education major, Juan Lising, at the Philippine Institute of Technology where she received a Bachelor of Science in Education. Juan quickly fell for the beautiful sports enthusiast. After many attempts to get her attention, he finally found the courage to ask her out to the cinema. When asked, Juan couldn’t recall the name of the film because all his attention was on Antonia instead. After two years of dating, they were wed on August 3, 1952. They were married for 63 years.Antonia played a special role in the lives of many. Her family and friends will remember her as an authentic, strong-willed and charismatic woman who was never afraid to speak her mind. A true asset to the community, Antonia was part of the Family Planning Association of Angeles and actively volunteered to care for the ill. Apart from being the family seamstress, Antonia was also a softball player and volleyball player; she even loved boxing. She often went out to tango and waltz with her husband and would always play patintero with her children. She and her family enjoyed traveling to many parts of the Philippines, including Mindanao, Baguio and Boracay. She visited many foreign countries including Mexico, Switzerland, Sweden, Italy, England, Spain, France and Germany.In 1980, Antonia and her husband Juan moved to the United States. She worked for the Hayward Unified School District, California Optical Leather and Macy’s. She also spent much of her time caring after her grandchildren. Antonia loved to cook and entertain. Nothing could hold a candle to her bright smile especially during Christmas, her favorite holiday.We miss and love you dearly Antonia. Until we meet again.
