Annie McAvoy McMillan Annie McAvoy McMillan was born on November 24th, 1917 in Glasgow Scotland to Francis Patrick McAvoy and Helen Darby. She was the youngest of 12 brothers and sisters. As a young child she contracted diphtheria and almost died. She ended up outliving her siblings as she was the last surviving child.At age 14 she finished school and started her career as a seamstress and Taylor. As a young girl she loved to go dancing. This is where she met John Robertson McMillan who would be the love of her life. She ran long enough for him to catch her and on July 14 1939 they were married. They remained married and very much in love until his death on January 23, 1995.During WW2 they were blessed with 2 children, John and Francis and were pregnant with their third child, Anne, when John Jr. contracted meningitis and died at the age of 3. This was a very difficult time for her as John Robertson was part of the Normandy invasion. Anne and Francis grew up to be beautiful women who later immigrated to the United States in 1961 and 1962. In 1963, at the age of 46, Annie gave birth to her 2nd son, Graeme.In 1970 Annie immigrated to the United States to be with her daughters and her grandchildren, and to give her young son a better life. Annie was a person of small stature but big in heart. She lived for her family and always put them first. She is survived by her 3 children, 9 grandchildren, and 12 great-grandchildren.
