Angie Thompson's Obituary
Born on September 22,1933 in Oilton Texas to Isabel & Eliseo Cortinas. She is the eldest of 7 brothers and sisters Jose Benavides, Teresa Cardenas, Gloria Meza, Juan Benavides, Grace Benavides and Minnie Arellano. She was the daughter of Farm workers. From Oilton Texas the family moved to Laredo Texas in 1942 and then to Corpus Christi Texas. The House was small but full of Love and a growing family. She spoke of how grateful for all that she had because in her early years it was tough. The first job outside of home was at a Cleaners in town and her Boss was a German man who if he caught you speaking Spanish would fire you. She met my father at a dance with her friends. He was in the Marine Corp stationed in Corpus Christi. In 1954 they were married and moved to Seattle Washington. The train ride was long and she said she cried most of the way. When they got to Seattle, she hated the weather so after a week they traveled down to San Francisco to stay with Don’s brother Vern. There dad started his career in the grocery business and in 1957 they had their only daughter Teresa Ann and started her job as a Mom and housewife. Mom never learned to drive but could get everywhere on the bus. She was married to my dad for 29 years. During that time she became a Grandma to Crystal and Brian so her third job was being the Best grandma. She married Tommy Thompson on April 14, 1984. They loved to travel and both loved to dance at their favorite hangout. She always kept a beautiful yard and said that pulling weeds was the best therapy. Mom would say “The weeds could not talk back to you and kept all of your secrets”. She lost my father Don in 2010 and then Tom in 2012. She kept busy with maintaining her home and yard. She would enjoy when family would come to visit and when she got to take care of Pierce, Crystal’s dog. He always listened to her and never spoke back. She was very proud that she got to help Brian clean his first classroom at Tennyson High so his students had a clean and inviting space to learn. She was a 2-time Cancer survivor and was very proud of the fact that she won the battle. She weathered the Covid Pandemic but in 2023 her health started to decline. The pep in her step wasn’t as peppy and her memory was fading. She still had her Sassy disposition and Spicy sense of humor. On April 14th 2025 her and Tom’s anniversary, she left us but not without leaving us a very import lesson. Families come in all shapes and sizes and even though you don’t always see eye to eye it is important to stay in touch with one another and always be available to lend a helping hand. Because giving more while expecting less will truly fill your heart with love which no amount of money can buy. She leaves behind Bob, Teresa, Crystal and Brian Glaze, numerous brothers and sisters, cousins, nieces, and nephews.
