Dad’s Story (Obituary for Andres “Billy” de Vera, Jr.)Andres “Billy” de Vera, Jr. was born on August 8, 1945 in the town of Mangaldan, in Pangasinan, Philippines. He was the second child born to the late Maria Lourdes Monsada and Andres de Vera, Sr. Years after his father passed away when Billy was an infant, he became an adopted son of his mother’s second husband, the late Pedro Cabaluna, Sr.Billy graduated from the Don Bosco Institute of Technology in Makati, Metro Manila, Philippines. He then studied forestry for two years at the University of the Philippines Los Banos College of Agriculture.Billy met his future wife Mila in the Philippines. He immigrated to the United States in 1976 and Mila followed a year after that. He lived with his older sister Elvie and brother-in-law Lando in Daly City for about 2 years before moving to a different home with Mila in Daly City.In 1980, they lived in Fremont, CA with Billy’s mother, step-father and brothers for several years and then eventually settled in a home in Newark, CA in 1992.He married Mila and had 5 beautiful girls: Debbie, Merry Jane, Crystal Lynn, Michelle and Mabel.Billy worked as a supervisor at SF Pleating Company in San Francisco, CA. He worked there for 22 years until he underwent quadruple bypass surgery in 1998. Billy retired a year after the surgery.Billy loved to go fishing, garden, build things at home, go to the movies and go out with his friends. He also loved taking his family on family trips.In 2016, Billy was diagnosed with renal failure. His health was slowly failing and on September 14th at 2:15pm, Billy was called home to the Lord, with his wife and daughters by his bedside.He is survived by his loving wife Mila; daughter Debbie de Vera; daughter Merry Jane de Vera; daughter Crystal Lynn de Vera Yancey, (Son-in-Law Nicholas Yancey, grandchildren Nicole Alexis Yancey, Corrin Darlene Yancey, Paul Andres Yancey and Isabel Megan Yancey); daughter Michelle de Vera; daughter Mabel de Vera, (granddaughter Abigail Mila Dupart) and brothers Jennys Cabaluna, Pedro “Ding” Cabaluna Jr., Donnie Cabaluna and Wilfredo “Willy” Cabaluna. Billy was preceded in death by his parents Andres and Lourdes, step father Pedro, and sister Elvira Bada.Psalm 23A psalm of David.1 The Lord is my shepherd, I lack nothing 2 He makes me lie down in green pastures, he leads me beside quiet waters,3 he refreshes my soul.
