Alvin Becker's Obituary
Alvin Becker Nov. 17, 1929 – July 19, 2013 Al Becker, a Fremont resident since 1960, passed-away surrounded by his loving family on July 19, 2013. He was 83 years old.He was born in Pittsburg, CA to Earl and Opal Becker. Al graduated from Liberty Union High School in Brentwood in 1948, where he played the French horn, excelled as a baseball pitcher, and played football. In 2012 he was inducted into Liberty’s Athletic Hall of Fame with his 1946 varsity football team. He joined the Navy in 1948, and served on the USS Princeton. He attended Santa Rosa Junior College to play baseball, and later graduated from Ohlone College in 1977. He held positions as a carpenter foreman and field superintendent in commercial roof construction, and later as a licensed general contractor. During retirement, he worked at Fremont’s Orchard Supply.An avid photographer, Al enjoyed taking pictures of Yosemite and his grandchildren. He went on numerous cruises and travels with his wife Alice, family, and friends, and enjoyed taking the grandkids to local points of interest. He went on a father son Alaskan cruise, and repeated the trip with Ken and his grandsons Nick and Cody the following summer. He was also a fan of the SF 49ers and Giants.He is preceded in death by his sister, Maxine. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Alice; his children and their spouses, Ken and Tammy Becker, Janelle and Scott Schilling, and grandchildren Danielle, Christa, Nick, Cody, Sierra, great-grandson Nathan, and sisters, Irene and Bobbi, who affectionately called him “Buddy.”A Memorial Service will be held on Thursday August 8th, 2013 at 10:00 am, at Chapel of the Chimes Reflection Chapel, 32992 Mission Blvd, Hayward, CA 94544.Donations can be made to the American Heart Association, PO Box 742030, Los Angeles, CA 90074-2030.
