Alice Marie Scott-Clay's Obituary
Alice Marie Scott-Clay was born on December 19, 1951 in Ruston, Louisiana to her parents Lealer and John Scott. She accepted Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior and was baptized at an early age. Her early childhood years were spent in Ruston before moving to Oakland, California. She married and moved to Newark, California for a period of time before making her permanent residence in Castro Valley, California where she lived for 31 years.
Alice was blessed to be the mother of two children and a surrogate mother to many. She lived a full and vibrant life, and her doctrine was “Faith, Family, and Friends.” As such, she was well known and loved my many. Alice will be remembered for her warm, compassionate, straight-talking personality, and for opening her heart and home to anyone in need. She was a spiritual, strong, and deeply caring mother, who was the center of her of children and grandchildren’s world. Once in her presence, you always left with a feeling of genuine love, acceptance, and wholeness.
She enjoyed having family and friends around. Hosting and cooking was a joy to her, and she loved making her favorite dishes to share. Family gatherings were her favorite times to watch her children, grandchildren, brothers, sister, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends share stories, laugh, and live in the moment.
Alice relocated to Martinez, California to live a retired life filled with the joy of being close to her daughters and grandchildren. She was a dedicated woman who was passionate about education and helping those in need. This passion led her to co-found and become an active Executive Board Member of the Dr. Audrey Terrel Institute, a non-profit organization dedicated to educating students in underserved communities.
On April 21, 2021, the Lord called Alice home from her life of service to rewards. In her walk to glory, she will be reunited with her second-husband Henry Clay; mother Lealer Scott; father John Scott; brothers Wilber Potts and Willie Potts; and several other family members and friends.
Forever cherishing Alice’s precious memory are two daughters: Melinda Harris (Stan Harris) and Jeanetta McCarter (Donald Orchard), Martinez, CA; three grandchildren: Laila Orchard, Donald M. Orchard II, Angelina Harris; sister: Virginia Potts Antioch, CA; brothers: Jimmy Thompson Sr., Stockton, CA, Percy Scott (Theresa), Fairfield, CA, Johnny Scott, San Leandro, CA, James Scott, Concord, CA; sister-in-law, Evelyn Potts, Colorado, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, colleagues, and neighbors.
