Alice A. Knudson's Obituary
KNUDSONAlice A. KnudsonHayward icon, Alice A. Knudson, owner and operator of multiple IHOP Restaurants in the Bay Area, passed away at her home in San Ramon on Sunday, July 16, 2006. Alice, 74, was born in Sioux City, Iowa. Affectionately known to her family, friends and customers as 'The Queen of the Hop', Alice has been in the IHOP business along with her family for over forty years. She has been quoted as saying she has 'Maple Syrup in her veins.' Alice embraced the restaurant business and worked seven days a week until her cancer diagnosis in July of 2005. Alice's family was everything to her. She was preceded in death by her husband, Wayne A. Knudson. Alice is survived by her seven children: devoted daughters, Cheryl Hussey (husband Cliff) of El Sobrante, Diana Foster of Hayward; and her loving sons, Randy Knudson (wife Michele) of Vacaville, Dennis Knudson of Hayward, Curtis Knudson (wife Debbie) of Hayward, Douglas Knudson of San Ramon, and Darryl Knudson (a.k.a. Harry) of Hayward. Alice had seven grandchildren, Darin Hussey of Reno, Mellissa Cunningham (husband Michael) of Hayward, Alicia Knudson of Pleasanton, Cristina Knudson of Hayward, Angela Knudson of Vacaville, Chelsea Knudson of Tracy, and Heather Knudson of Livermore. Alice also has three great-grandchildren, Anthony Hussey of Reno, Mason Cunningham of Hayward, and her new great-granddaughter born last month in Hayward, Kalaya Williams. Alice was one of ten children, and is survived by her remaining five loving sisters, Loretta Book, Bethel Stubblefield, Fern Shugart, Avis Ney, Nancy Cook; and one brother, Wayne Andersen. Alice was loved by so many; with her never-ending generosity and loving support of her family and friends, she will live forever in the hearts of those she left behind. Visitation will be held, Sunday, July 23, 3:00- 6:00 PM and Monday, July 24, 4:30-8:30 PM at the CHAPEL OF THE CHIMES MEMORIAL PARK AND FUNERAL HOME, 32292 Mission Blvd. Hayward, CA, Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday, July 25 at 11:00 AM at REDWOOD CHAPEL COMMUNITY CHURCH, 19300 Redwood Road, Castro Valley, CA. Interment at CHAPEL OF THE CHIMES immediately following service.
