Alfredo Cabelin Arante's Obituary
It is with great grief that we announce the passing of our father, grandpa and husband, Alfredo Arante on July 18, 2024, at the age of 78. Fred “Buden”, as he was fondly referred to by family and friends, was born on May 16, 1946, in Samar-Leyte, Philippines, to Vicente Sr. and Rosalia (Cabelin) Arante. He is survived by his elder sister who he fondly referred to as Mama Lita and preceded by his older brother Ott.
Fred met the love of his life and beloved wife, Linda, of 57 years while studying Chemical Engineering at Adamson University, Philippines in 1967. He put himself through school earning a master’s in business administration from the University of the Philippines. Fred and Linda started their family in Las Piñas, Manila. His work took him to Dubai and Osaka. However, he worked with prestige and privilege for Meralco for many years. In 1988, seeking opportunities for his kids, he emigrated to California. He humbly worked the night shift as a plant operator for Air Liquide in Union City. He was known for his hard work, love and support of his family and friends. He is survived by: sons, Larry and Rey; daughter, Barbara; son-in-law, Elmer; daughters-in-law, Anna and Ruby; and eight grandchildren; Aidan, Andre, Alexa, Allyson, Eian, Esabel, Ezaiah, and Kevin.
His grandkids have fond memories of fishing trips to Half Moon Bay, skiing in Salt Lake, Thanksgiving & Christmas gatherings at his house in Union City and driving around in Houston, Texas. His love of photography took him many places: Canadian trips with his college buddy, Bridal Falls in Yosemite, Lover’s Cove in Lake Tahoe, and simply taking in the everchanging sun scapes in the San Francisco Bay Area. Fred touched the lives of distant friends and families in Belgium, Sydney, Idaho, and New York. He made his home a welcoming place in times when his friendship and support was needed the most. No words can express how much we will miss our Dada.
Funeral Services will be at Chapel of the Chimes, Hayward, California. Viewing and mass will be on Wednesday, August 7th at 4-7pm. Burial will be on Friday, August 9th, 2024, at 9:30-11am.
