Alex Macasieb Zonio's Obituary
With deepest sorrow, we announce that Alex M. Zonio passed away on September 14th, 2019. Although he was only 30 years old, Alex deeply affected many people in his lifetime and was respected and loved by all who knew him.He was born in Hayward, California in 1988 and graduated from Newark Memorial High School in 2007. Alex loved being a part of the Royal Rangers program and hunting with his father throughout his childhood. When he was in high school, he was dedicated to his wrestling, football, and track and field teams. He shared his love of wrestling as a coach for junior high school students. Alex enlisted for the Army National Guard when he was 17 and served for 13 years in the US Army. He was on active duty during the Iraq War.Upon returning to California, he served on the Weapons of Mass Destruction Civilian Support Team. He later joined law enforcement as a Corrections Officer at San Quentin State Prison before becoming a Sheriff Deputy for Contra Costa County. Most recently, Alex was a Police Officer with Hayward PD, and Staff Sergeant in the Army Reserves serving as a Drill Sergeant Candidate at Camp Parks in Dublin, California.Alex is survived by his parents, Alex A. and Ping Zonio, his partner, Kim Hernando, and his beloved dog, Spike. He will always be remembered for the joy he brought to his friends and family, for his ability to make a whole room burst into laughter, for his admirable character, and for his ability to see the good in everyone.
