Alex Luna Manalo's Obituary
It is with heavy hearts that we announce Alex Luna Manalo passed on June 11, 2021, at 67 years old.
Alex was born to Lorenzo and Estela Manalo in Quezon City, Philippines. He was their only son with two sisters, Shirley and Rowena.
Alex immigrated to the United States in the early 1970’s with his family, making a home in San Francisco, CA, alongside his many aunts, uncles and cousins. As a young man, he enjoyed playing basketball, fishing, and driving around with music blasting.
He began working on the assembly line at Finnigan (now Thermo Fisher Scientific), where he dedicated almost 40 years of his life, retiring as a Production Manager in 2011.
Alex married Marilou Castillo on September 25, 1976 at Holy Angels Church in Colma, CA. Together they eventually settled in Hayward, raising their family of three daughters - Catherine, Cynthia, and Katricia.
Despite working many long hours to provide for his family, he enjoyed afternoons at Golden Gate Fields or Bay Meadows, countless hours walking around downtown Hayward, cruising in his Corvette, going to the movies and cheering on the SF 49ers and Giants with his family, and of course, indulging in all the good eats wherever he could find them. Later in life, he enjoyed playing blackjack, throwing dice, and attending the many concerts at Cache Creek.
Alex is survived by his daughters Catherine (Geoffrey Nadler) Manalo, Cynthia (Christian) Megino, and Katricia (Frank) Sanchez; his grandchildren Marilyn Megino, Alexander Megino and Lucia Sanchez; his siblings and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
The visitation will be at 5pm on June 30th at Chapel of the Chimes in Hayward, CA, with the vigil and rosary starts at 6:30pm.
The funeral mass will be at All Saints Catholic Church in Hayward, CA on July 1st at 10:30am.
