Abraham Shemaria's Obituary
Abraham Shemaria, 84, a long time resident of Castro Valley, passed away on October 28, 2019. He was born on June 10, 1935 in Los Angeles, California to Florence and Isaac Shemaria, who were from the Island of Rhodes, now part of Greece. Sadly, his father Isaac passed away when Abraham was three months old. Abraham attended the California School for the Deaf in Berkeley and worked many years as an upholsterer. He enjoyed traveling the world, collecting souvenirs and other trinkets on his many journeys. Although he never drove a car, he traversed the Bay Area by bus and BART to every street festival, antique showcase, or sports collector show he could get to. He was a huge fan of the Oakland Athletics baseball team, holding season tickets for over 25 years and amassing a wonderful collection of A’s baseball memorabilia.He is survived by his sister and brother-in-law, Sarah and Benjamin Jason of San Leandro, his nephews Jack Jason of Los Angeles and Sam Jason of Castro Valley, and nieces Margaret Uthoff of Pahrump, Nevada, and Gaylyn Bierman of Santa Rosa. He is predeceased by his sister Molly Holder and brother Meyer Shemaria.Gravesite services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on October 30, 2019 at Chapel of the Chimes in Hayward, California, 32992 Mission Blvd.
