Mr. Sam Mitchell was born March 4, 1932 in Shreveport, Louisiana to Willie Mae and Thomas J. Mitchell. He was the oldest of three siblings, Gertrude Wimberly, Willie Lee Seacrease, Robert Lee Thomas. After graduation in 1952 he enlisted in the United States Air Force.
1953-1958 Wichita, Kansas at McConnell AFB
1959-1963 Stephenville, Newfoundland, Ernest Harmon AFB.
1963-1969 Lompoc California, Vandenberg AFB. Assigned to the 395th Missile Squadron (Titan II Missile Program) after training was completed he was transferred to 390 1st Mission Evaluation team. Where they were responsible for inspecting all Titan Bases.
1969-1971 Transferred to Vietnam to work on the Martin Baker Ejection seat on the F4C fighter jets. Then Transferred to Ny Trang Vietnam reassigned to the C-130 BlackBirds Aircraft.
After serving in Vietnam, He was transferred to Marysville, Ca, Beale AFB. He was assigned to the NCO club in the manager position.
He retired from the United States Air Force August 1, 1972.
September 13,1972 he started working as Bar Manager,
for McArthur Park Restaurant, located on Front Street, San Francisco, Ca.
1974 He and a friend invested in a Club in the Trans bay Terminal naming it “Cuddles.” They ran the business together until 1975. He purchased complete ownership with Jo Ann Mitchell his wife, and they ran it successfully until they closed the doors in 1998.
The Mitchell’s joined Holy Spirit Church in 1998. They served as Eucharist Ministers for many years. Money Counters at Sunday Mass. Grand Marshall in Holy Spirit Festival Parade. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and was a Grand Knight. Sam and Jo Ann volunteered and coordinated “Share Christmas” for six years. They consistently served Meals on Wheels every Tuesday. They served on the Stewardship committee, and whenever Sam cooked for any church function maximum attendance was guaranteed!
